Animatronic Chicken Nuggets. Enough Said.

Wooster Collective has a fantastic Write up on Banksy's latest work, which is also his first ever New York Show entitled: The Village Pet Store And Charcoal Grill
Besides The Chicken Nuggets, the show includes such Animatronic wonders as, a bunny applying make-up, Hot dogs in Heat lamp equipped glass terrariums, A Leopard Print jacket hanging out in a tree like the real thing, Breaded Fish Sticks that swim about their fishbowl, and a CCTV camera nuturing it's young. Not only is this a complete departure from his regular work, which consisted mostly of stencil street Tags, and paintings, but it's just an amazing usage of Animatronic sculptures in general.
I'm not normally one to gush but I wish I could visit NYC before this gets taken down after Holloween, I love everything about this.

Robovox Demands Your Unquestioning Obedience

found is on Boing Boing Gadgets

Robovox: an 8-meter tall metallic overlord who accepts text messages from your cell phone, then reads them aloud to the trembling meat squalls bowing and scraping before him. Robovox's creator believes he will be used for the metallic monotone expression of political dissent, but it seems far more likely that an average day's discourse will be spent elaborating upon his contempt for the filthy squalor of humanity, threatening their destruction and asking about the strange nature of the human emotion some call "wuv."

I See Pixels

by Don Little (based on similarity to other work he's made)

The buddhists believed art was something of merit, something that was intrinsicly good karma and the making of would bring you closer to enlightenment, but only if you didnt sign your work. Gives you something to think about when it comes to anonymous street art.

"For the Pleasure of Your Contempt"

Savoy

Urban Deer

Deer House

The Definition of the hip West coast art scene, Elizabeth McGrath, makes terribly interesting art, drawing heavily from taxidermy, (I think its all faux-taxidermy) In her own words she describes her work as, isolated freakshows luxuriously dressed.

Miniture Sculptures Aren't Compensating

Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz
Meanwhile Further South, 2007

This is a pair of artists making really amzing sculptures all of a really tiny scale, i only discovered them today, but i'm already jealous that they thought of a bunch of great uses for those little model train people before i could think of one. Plus we totally used the same model trees, from one of their other pieces (sans Foliage) and the project i'm working on. If your at all interest in this sort of art i highly recomend looking at the rest of their galleries, there is too much good work for me to post it all here.

It's Ok, I Know What I'm Doing.

So ages ago I made the group Don't Worry I'm a Sculpture Major

I mainly wanted a cool sounding group to invite some of my friends to, and I have extolled the Values of Sculpture Majors many times which include:

-Super Healing.
-Nigh-Invulnerability.
-Higher than average Strength for an Artist.
-All around Handiness.
-The ability to bend Metal with their mind.
-The ability to eat fire as a food group.
-Treat minor cuts, scrapes, splinters, burns, abrasions, etc, as an aphrodisiac.
-A working knowledge of nearly every tool ever. (including the Archimedes screw, the Canadarm, Bull whips, Chopsticks, and Portainer gantry cranes)
-Their sweat is Highly prized by gourmet chefs as a flavor enhancer.
-They know no fear.
-They use Tin snips to cut their hair, and Metal files to shave.
-etc.

Well anyways, the group has sort of taken off on its own, and now has 122 members, from all across the country, as well as members in Belgium, Italy, New Zealand, Vietnam, Turkey, Lebanon, Poland, England, South Africa, Wales, Austrailia, Canada, Mauritius, Japan, Egypt, Paraguay, Ireland, and Croatia. All that and I havent done a single thing to promote it other than recruit 6 friends as the original members.

What Time is it?

Ben pointed me towards this:

This is Sculpture Canadian artist David Altmejd. He makes strange semi grotesque semi mirror finish metal sculptures.

you can see more here: http://io9.com/5036350/everything-thats-wrong-with-nature

The thing that really pulls it all together for me is the little digital wristwatch. It was kind of neat before but when i noticed that, i was sold. It's tiny details like that, that make a sculpture like this interesting. How in instances like this something so utterly normal and common place becomes the absurd solely by comparison.
